Welcome
Dr. Nelanthi Hewa is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Annenberg School for Communication's Center for Collaborative Communication at the University of Pennsylvania.
Hi! I'm a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, where I work with Dr. Sarah Banet-Weiser at the Center for Collaborative Communication. My doctoral thesis studied how the labour conditions of journalists and ideas around privacy/publicity online shape and structure the coverage of sexual violence in Canada.

My work was supported by a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Canada Graduate Scholarship, and I'm affiliated with the Digital Research Ethics Collaboratory and the Knowledge Media Design Institute.
I also received a research grant from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) in 2021 to support the research project, "The process of decentering Whiteness": Newsletters, journalists of color, and the entrepreneurial push.

You can find my work in Feminist Media Studies, Journalism Studies, First Monday and New Media & Society. Please feel free to reach out for speaking engagements or collaborations.
